I’m Noah, a mature student who started in January on the Accounting and Finance with a foundation year course.

I want to focus on accessibility to sustainable practices as I’m aware of how some practices can be unaffordable and that can lead to people not even trying. I want to make environmental action something every student can take part in, not something that feels expensive or out of reach.

As your Environement & Sustainability Officer I will:

  • Provide simple opportunities for students to learn practical, low‑cost ways to be more sustainable.

  • Continue the work this year’s environmental officer has started and expand on initiatives that I'm excited about.

  • I want to focus on awareness of what the university already does because a lot of good environmental work already exists on campus — but many students don’t hear about it. I didn't until I asked.

  • Work with the Students’ Union to centralise all sustainability info in one easy-to-find place.

  • Create a light social initiative that encourages students to share small everyday actions that support sustainability.

  • Listen to students from all backgrounds — especially those who feel sustainability isn’t accessible to them.

  • Keep communication honest, clear, and focused on realistic solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with students, staff, and societies to make sure environmental action stays an accessible shared effort.

  • Let’s make sustainability feel achievable, affordable, and hopeful.

As a mature student, I’ve lived at both ends of the financial spectrum — times where I was very broke, and times where I was really well-off. That experience means I understand what students actually worry about and what they realistically can (and can’t) afford. It also means I know how to speak to higher-ups and get things done.
