Mature students bring determination, real-world experience, and valuable perspective to university life. However, we can sometimes feel overlooked or disconnected from the wider student community. As your Mature Student Officer, I will ensure our voices are represented and our needs are put out there and listened to.  

My Priorities:  

STRENGTHENING THE MATURE STUDENT COMMUNITY  

University should be a place where everyone feels they belong. I will:  

  • Organise regular meetups and informal coffee mornings  

  • Develop a peer support network to connect mature students  

  • Promote inclusive events that reflect different lifestyles   

INCREASING FLEXIBILITY & ACCESSIBILITY  

Many mature students balance multiple responsibilities. I will:  

  • Advocate for reliable access to recorded lectures   

  • Support more hybrid and flexible events options   

  • Work with faculties to better acknowledge work and family commitments  

BOOSTING ACADEMIC & CAREER CONFIDENCE  

Returning to study can feel overwhelming. I will:  

  • Promote study skills workshops and dissertation support  

  • Encourage tailored career guidance for those changing or advancing careers  

  • Ensure mature students are clearly signposted to available support services  

Mature students are a vital part of this university community. We deserve strong representation from someone who understands the pressures, sacrifices, and ambitions that define our journey.
