Shape the future of student activities at a leading Students’ Union
Newman Students’ Union represents over 3,800 students at Birmingham Newman University: a close-knit, inclusive community recently ranked #1 in the UK for Social Inclusion (The Times & Sunday Times). We’re proud to be a student-led charity empowering every student to use their voice and find their place now and for the future.
We’re looking for a Student Voice & Communities Co-ordinator to join our team and play a central role in strengthening student activities, wellbeing, and community engagement as we deliver our ambitious 2024–27 Strategy.
Why join us?
- Contribute to a dynamic, values-driven charity making a real impact in higher education.
- Support an award-winning Union, voted #1 in the Midlands and #3 in the UK in the National Student Survey 2025 and #1 in the West Midlands in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2025.
- Work alongside passionate student leaders and a small, supportive staff team.
- Play a key role in shaping student life, activities and community on campus.
- Gain valuable experience in events, partnerships and student engagement in a supportive environment.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be at the heart of our community and wellbeing work, supporting the opportunities that help students connect, belong and thrive.
This includes:
- Supporting and developing over 30 student-led societies
- Delivering Welcome Week, events and student-led initiatives
- Promoting student activities, wellbeing initiatives and opportunities
- Supporting students to create new societies, projects and initiatives
- Building a strong partnership with the Newman Sports Centre to expand recreational opportunities
- Ensuring activities are inclusive, well-resourced and compliant
- Working with Officers and University colleagues to increase participation and engagement
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need direct Students’ Union experience — just enthusiasm, initiative, and a passion for student community.
We’re particularly looking for someone with:
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence working with a range of stakeholders
- Experience in administration, co-ordination or events
- The ability to communicate clearly and build effective relationships
- A genuine interest in student activities, wellbeing and community building
We value diverse perspectives and are committed to inclusive recruitment. Training and support will be provided to help you succeed in the role.
