Cloudy Kerin - Vice-President 2024-26
It's been a real privilege to act as Vice-President of your Students' Union over the 24/26 academic year, and I'm super proud to be able to talk about everything we've achieved together to enhance community and wellbeing at Birmingham Newman:
- Made it easier for us to build community together, by simplifying society launching processes and offering pro-active support to societies.
- Built more opportunities for you to get involved with your peers and showcase your skills, by launching events like Wellbeing Week, and Study Group.
- Advocated for your inclusion on campus, working alongside to university to revisit accessibility and inclusion within our physical spaces.
- Worked to ensure societies are celebrated as a fundamental part of the culture within Newman Students' Union, working with them to build more collaborative events which better serve what you want from your experience with us.
- Promoted a whole university approach to wellbeing, working with the university to deliver skills workshops and collaborative academic & wellbeing support.
I intend to build on these successes in the next academic year by:
- Working with the Student Success team to deliver wellbeing enhancing initiatives which enable you to Make Space for yourself to connect with your peers, your interests, and support at university.
- Make it even easier to launch a society, student group, event or initiative; with intentional support for students looking to connect in ways which celebrate and build arts, culture and wellbeing.
- Build even more opportunities for you to get involved in by both expanding Wellbeing Week with more student-led activities and a conference, and working with the university to build opportunities for students to get involved in real-world research and projects.
- Work with the university to make a whole university approach to mental health part of the culture and identity of Birmingham Newman.
- Support the President's Academic Representation overhaul by working to support academic societies to become places where student voice is elevated.
There’s so much more to come. I genuinely can’t express how excited I am to be working on all of this with you. I look forward to continuing to build on what sets our community apart.
See you soon! - Cloudy.
