Gemma Bowen - President 2024-26
As your President of the Students’ Union, I’m proud to share some of the wins I’ve achieved for you this year:
- Raised your voice; from lobbying MPs to improving the Course Rep system and shaping the new University Strategy.
- Boosted support; advocated for diabetic supplies in first aid kits on campus, promoted cost-of-living help, and laid the groundwork for a surplus food initiative.
- Built community; launched events like Cuppa & Chat, My Black History, Christmas Grotto, collaborated with Academics for the Spring into Summer fund raiser, plus a vibrant Summer Party!
- Emphasised wellbeing; from free personal training to Time Management & Financial Literacy Workshops
Looking ahead to 2025–26, I’ll be:
- Overhauling the Course Rep system to gain a stronger understanding of the student voice
- Launching new cultural storytelling projects
- Collaborate with Student Success and the new Money Advice Officer to expand hardship and financial advice provision
- Connect with other local Students’ Unions for greater collaboration, shared campaigns, and student-led learning opportunities.
- Support the Vice President to grow student-led events and societies
- Making the Christmas Grotto a yearly tradition 🎄
This is not an exclusive list and I have lots more in the pipework. Thank you for being part of such a vibrant, resilient community. Let’s keep building something brilliant together.
Gem.
