Newman Students' Union is here to support you in getting involved with your community beyond your course. Whether you want to meet others, develop ideas, or take action on something important to you, there are plenty of ways to engage with your community.
Ways to Get Involved
-
Launch a new Initiative or Run a Workshop or Event
If there’s something you’d like to improve or change, we’ll help you get started. Students have led projects that introduced hearing loops, gender-neutral toilets, and free menstrual products across campus. We also support students to host workshops and events as individuals; from party events, BSL workshops, learning to crochet, to self-care and wellbeing. Share your skills or passions by hosting something for your peers or the wider Newman community.
Societies are student-led groups where you can connect with others who have similar interests. They’re a great way to meet people, try something new, or build a sense of belonging.
-
Start or Restart a Society
If there isn’t a society that fits your interest, or if you’d like to bring back one that’s no longer active, you can start one with a friend or join a committee to lead it forward.
These are led by students on your course and give you space to talk through study topics, assessments, or anything else related to your subject.
-
Fundraise with Raise and Give (RaG)
Raise and Give (RaG) allows you as students to raise money for different charities throughout the year, with the opportunity to choose causes that are important to you. Each year, Newman Students' Union aims to increase our fundraising and campaigning opportunities. Launching or getting involved in a RaG initiative is a great way to support the causes that matter most.
RaG initiatives and opportunities can be launched and led by any student, student representative, or student groups (such as societies) and take many forms. For example, with our support you could host an event here on campus or encourage your peers to participate in an event in the wider community. You could also launch a longer-term RaG initiative or take part in a sponsored challenge. Don’t limit yourself to these ideas, if there is something you’re interested in being involved in, we can enable you to make it happen.
If you’d like to explore any of these opportunities or talk through an idea, contact your Student Union's Vice-President.
