Additional Consideration
What is Additional Consideration?
This is the new system that replaces the old extensions and mitigating circumstances procedures. It focuses on supporting you to recover your studies, rather than asking you to provide evidence.
What if I need more time for an assessment?
You can apply for an extension or deferral using the temporary Microsoft Form: Assessment Deadline Support: Getting Back on Track
Do I need to provide evidence (like a doctor’s note)?
No. You don’t need to upload or submit any evidence. You’ll need to select the reason that best fits your situation and briefly explain how it has impacted your ability to complete your work. If the team need any more information, then they will be in touch.
Will my request be approved automatically?
The team reviews requests to ensure you receive the right support. You may be asked to speak with someone from Student Success or your academic tutor to help plan your next steps.
What happens after I submit the form?
Your request will be reviewed manually, and someone will contact you by email to confirm the outcome or discuss your support options. The team aims to reply to all applications within two working days.
What if I have a disability or learning difference?
Students with a disability can still apply through the same process — you don’t need to provide evidence each time. The Disability and Inclusion team and Student Success will ensure your request is handled appropriately. If you have any concerns, you can contact the team by emailing studentsuccess@newman.ac.uk
When will the new online system be ready?
The full portal is currently being developed. Once testing is complete, we’ll share details on how to access and use it.
Who can I talk to if I’m not sure what to do?
You can speak to your personal tutor or contact the Helpdesk, who can point you in the right direction. If you have any questions about the process, you can also contact the Additional Considerations team at assessmentdeadlines@newman.ac.uk
