Full Policies and Procedures:
What is a disciplinary?
If a student is found guilty of misconduct, they may be required to attend a disciplinary hearing. The purpose of this procedure is to ensure fairness and consistent treatment of students as defined by the rights and duties of all those concerned. The students union can provide independent advice to students.
How can I appeal?
Students can appeal against any findings of guilt or penalties that are imposed by the result of the disciplinary hearing panel. Students must send appeals to the University Secretary and Registrar within 28 days of receiving notification of the panel’s decision. Students must set out the grounds for the appeal.
What are grounds for an Appeal?
- New evidence that could not reasonably be revealed to the panel
- Procedural error
- Penalties imposed were not appropriate or proportionate to the offence
What support can the Students' Union offer?
The Students' Union can provide representation to students in the role of a supporting friend. They can provide moral support, act as an observer and assist the student in making their case with the permission of the chair.
Office of the Independent Adjudicator:
After the completion of the disciplinary procedure and a letter has been sent to the student, the student will have the right to appeal to the OIA.
