ZOE HARRISON
ZOE'S MANIFESTO:
Promise 1: Being YOUR President When writing my pledges to be your President for the second year in a row, I have had time to reflect on my 8 months in office already. I have absolutely loved every minute of this job and I am extremely passionate about doing it again. Last year I promised to be someone who was visible, accessible and someone that you, as students, could see, speak to and trust. Over the last 8 months, I have tried every day to make sure that I do this and I really wholeheartedly believe I have done so. To me, being a President means doing the jobs in the job description, attending the meetings I need to and building relationships within the Union and University, but most importantly, it is being a President that students want. I promise to be a President that you, as students, feel you can come to, can trust, can have a laugh with and that will do everything to make sure that I empower you to make your voices the loudest during your time at Newman. Promise 2: Put Newman Students’ Union on the map Making sure that all staff at Newman University know who the Student’s Union is, what we do and how both parties can work together to improve the student experience is something I feel is extremely important. At Newman, we pride ourselves on being a community and to do that, we need to be able to work together to have the biggest impact. I would like to continue the work that I have already started in building relationships with the University and, in doing so, promise to do whatever we can to do the best for you as students. Newman Students’ Union is a charitable organisation and we are here to make sure we have a positive impact on our students’ lives, providing them with as many opportunities as we can during their time here. To do that, it is vital for all of our student body to know who we are and what we can do to benefit them during their time at Newman. Whilst I know that it is going to be impossible to reach all students, but I’m pleased to note that the engagement has increased this academic year, I still think we can, and want everyone to be a part of us continuing to grow engagement and reach a wider range of our student population. Promise 3: Create a student led strategic plan Our strategic plan has run from 2020-2023 meaning that this year it is coming to an end. If I am re-elected I would like to create a completely student-led strategic plan that is fit for purpose for the student body that we currently have and can work in line with the constant growth that the University wants to achieve. In my opinion, the strategic plan is only effective if it is useful for its members. The way in which we can make this happen is to ensure that it has a majority input from our students so that they are writing and planning what will be useful and beneficial for them. I promise to make sure that this strategic plan is the best it can be for our students. |
RON (RE OPEN NOMINATIONS)
WHY VOTE FOR RON?
If you are not happy with any of the candidates, you can vote to Re-Open Nominations (RON). RON appears on the ballot, and votes for RON are counted in the same way as those for candidates. If RON is declared the winner after all votes have been counted, the election for that role will be held again. The original candidates are allowed to run again in the new ballot, but it gives the opportunity for new candidates to run. Students may choose to vote RON for one of the following reasons:
You do not need to vote for RON in an election; if you think all of the candidates are better than no candidate, you should not rank RON on your ballot. |
