WHAT ARE WE DOING?

At Newman Students' Union, we believe that it is important to recognise both the academic and extracurricular achievements of our staff and students. This is why we host our annual NSU Awards! 

This year we will be hosting the awards in person. Join us on Thursday the 27th April at 5pm, where we'll be celebrating in the Chapel. Feel free to bring along your friends and family too!

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

To get involved, we really value your input in telling us who deserves an award and why! The why is very important as it helps us later on decide who wins! While most awards are nominations, some are based off a certain criteria. These awards will be selected by the shortlisting committee and University Staff.

HOW DO I NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR AN AWARD?

You can nominate someone for an award by filling out the forms below. Simply click the drop down menu and fill in each field. Nominations open on Tuesday the 28th February, and close on Monday the 3rd April. 
Course Rep of the year 
The Course Rep of the Year Award aims to highlight the Course Reps who have gone above and beyond to represent the students in the class through attending meetings, gathering feedback and making sure that every student in their class has the opportunity to have their voice heard. ​

Society committee member of the year
The Society Committee Member of the year is given to a committee member who goes above and beyond for their society. This could be promoting their society and increasing numbers, hosting events for members and other students, or ensuring that the society runs smoothly.

Staff member of the year (academic)  
This Staff member of the Year Award is an award which is given to an academic member of staff who students believe has exceeded expectations and gone above and beyond in their role to benefit the student experience at Newman.  ​

Staff member of the year (professional)
This Staff member of the Year Award is an award which is given to a member of staff that is non academic, who students believe has exceeded expectations and gone above and beyond in their role to benefit the student experience at Newman. ​

Outstanding contribution to the Newman Community
At Newman, we are a very small and close community which is something we are very proud of here. The Outstanding Contribution to the Newman Community award goes to a student who strives every day to contribute to Newman and the people here. This person makes sure everyone has a smile on their face, and does everything they can to contribute to a happy environment at Newman.

Outstanding contribution to the Students’ UnioN
The Outstanding Contribution to the Students’ Union Award recognises students who have made a real impact on the Students’ Union throughout the year, and have gone above and beyond to be involved in, and support, Students’ Union activities.

The Society Event of the Year award goes to a society that has ran a successful event. This may look like an event that has: 
  • Engaged members 
  • Engaged the wider community  
  • Has been successfully ran by the society themselves

Department of the year (academic)  
This Department of the Year award is given to celebrate the academic department who students believe go above and beyond to support them throughout their time at Newman and better their experience whilst here. Think that your course does it best? Get your nominations in! ​

Department of the year (professional)
This Department of the Year award is given to celebrate the professional department who students believe go above and beyond to support them throughout their time at Newman and better their experience whilst here. This can range from student support to housekeeping, there are plenty of departments that will have shaped your time here! ​

The Society of the year award goes to the society that has excelled in their performance. That may look like:

The Student of the Year Award aims to recognise an exemplary student for their character, service, or academic achievements whilst at Newman University. This can be within the University or the Students’ Union. ​

Sports team of the year
The Sports Team of the Year Award aims to recognise a sports team that has gone above and beyond. This award aims to celebrate a team that not only has achieved, but has facilitated and created a community within Newman. ​

Sports personality of the year
The Sports Person of the Year Award aims to recognise an individual that has excelled within sporting achievement whilst representing Newman University. This can be within the sports teams or in individual sport. ​

Executive Member of the year 
This is a new award! Exec member of the year aims to recognise the achievements of our part time officers.  
 
Our part time officers are volunteers alongside their studies, and work hard to contribute to the student experience both within the university and the union.
