AMELIA WAGSTAFF
AMELIA'S MANIFESTO:
Hi my name is Amelia and I am a first year student studying Criminology. I am running for the role of Events and Activities Officer within the Students’ Union. As I am running for this position, here are some reasons that I believe make me a good candidate. I have good communication skills and organisation qualities. I am also passionate about making sure that everyone enjoys their university experience here at Newman and has as access to as many opportunities as possible whilst here. Pledge 1: Student Voice I believe that the voice of what you students want in events is most important, so I promise to listen to your opinions and wants about the events you would like to take part in. I also believe that everyone should be apart of the Newman community, therefore making sure events are inclusive to everyone at Newman is a priority. Pledge 2: Monthly Events When it comes to planning future events, if I get elected, I would like to plan an event for each month, this will increase the sense of community within Newman and gives you a chance to meet people who are not just on your course. Nightlife within your uni experience is important, however it is also important to ensure everyone on campus feels welcomed to events. Therefore, I would like to plan events that are welcoming for everyone and ensuring that these events are inclusive. This can range from none drinking events to family funs days. Pledge 3: Transport to external events Another idea I would like to achieve is arranging transport to external events. Ensuring people feel safe when travelling to events is essential. It also can be daunting especially in freshers week, therefore allowing you to travel with people from the same uni allows you meet new friends while keeping your safety paramount. Finally and most importantly, ensuring that everyone enjoys and gets the most out of your time at uni is my top priority. As well as getting a degree you want to have fun along the way, which is something I believe I can offer if get elected. |
RON (RE OPEN NOMINATIONS)
WHY VOTE FOR RON?
If you are not happy with any of the candidates, you can vote to Re-Open Nominations (RON). RON appears on the ballot, and votes for RON are counted in the same way as those for candidates. If RON is declared the winner after all votes have been counted, the election for that role will be held again. The original candidates are allowed to run again in the new ballot, but it gives the opportunity for new candidates to run. Students may choose to vote RON for one of the following reasons:
You do not need to vote for RON in an election; if you think all of the candidates are better than no candidate, you should not rank RON on your ballot. |
