Covid Teaching Champions is designed to support Newman student learners with children during the pandemic of Covid-19. The team at Newman Students’ Union understand that parent learners may be finding it difficult at the minute balancing their studies and completing assignments, while trying to support their own children at home. We also understand that children may be struggling with online schooling, and their education may be suffering in certain areas.

Covid Teaching Champions is an initiative using ongoing tutoring using 1-1 online platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. It is a learner-centred opportunity for children to receive subject specific focused support, to keep them on track until they can return to their educational establishment.

The initiative also supports Education Students providing them with valuable teaching experience to add to their CV, and therefore doubles as an employability programme.

WHAT COVID TEACHING CHAMPIONS WILL PROVIDE:
  1. Aspiration – supporting children to feel motivated and confident with their learning when not in school, so they can succeed, achieve and progress when schools reopen
  2. Matching Rationale – ensures you are matched to a tutor who understands your child’s needs
  3. Safeguarding – all tutors have completed a DBS check and are in the process of completing their training at Newman University.
  4. No Fees – students do not need to pay for this service
  5. Tutoring – our student tutors will be able to offer 4 thirty minute sessions across two weeks to support your child with specific subject support eg. Fractions, Spelling tips, Comprehension etc. The tutoring is tailored for your child’s needs and all tutoring content is quality checked by one of Newman University’s ITE Primary Educators before instruction is confirmed.
