NEWMAN STUDENTS' UNION

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) also known as the "All Student Meeting" is very important to the Students' Union, and the University. It is the ultimate meeting for every single student at Newman to approve the Students' Union's work and finances, and to ask questions of the people who are elected to support you. It is here that you can also submit an idea for change for students to vote on!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This year's AGM will be taking place on campus on the 23rd February, 3-5pm, in ST002. Reminders will be sent out in our What's On bulletin, which is sent to you every Monday.

At the meeting, we will ensure that there are enough people in the room to hold the meeting. Currently this is 1% of the Student Population, which based on a round figure of 2800 students, means that we would need 28 people in the room. If there are less than 28 people, then the meeting cannot go ahead, and will be rearranged for the following week.

All of the documents are available to download at the bottom of this page.

WHY SHOULD I GO?

We believe that Students are important, and that's why we need you to talk to us here as part of our wider efforts to hear you as our members. There are three reasons why you might want to come to the AGM:

1. You can see where we are spending your money and approve the accounts for the charity;
2. You can make change yourself, by submitting an idea for others to vote on; and
3. You can ask questions of the Executive Committee to make sure that they are working in your best interests.

WHAT THINGS DO WE TALK ABOUT AT THE AGM?

MINUTES FROM THE PREVIOUS MEETING
The Students must approve the notes taken from the Previous Meeting held in 2021.

APPROVAL OF AFFILIATIONS
The students must approve the affiliation with the National Union of Students. This affiliation provides the Students' Union with staff networks such as the CEOs, Representation, Advice and Opportunities, Officer training and networks, wider training opportunities and of course Totum (NUS) Cards. This affiliation currently costs the Students' Union £3,443.13. If this is NOT approved by the students, a referendum will be held to consider if the Students' Union continues with the affiliation.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORTS
Each Executive Committee will provide a report to Students which will outline their work since July 2021. Students will be able to ask questions to the Executive Committee or to individual Officers, holding them to account for the areas they oversee.

ELECTIONS ANNOUNCEMENT
An update will be provided to discuss this year's elections.
