What is TEF?
The government wishes to raise the quality of teaching within universities. It believes that there is a disparity between the quality of research and the quality of teaching within universities. They wish to create a more competitive and marketised HE system to combat this. This would mean that the universities who were rated the ‘worst’ and received the lowest TEF scores would close and the better/‘best’ rated universities for their quality of teaching and learning would increase in quality.
The quality of teaching and learning as part of the TEF would be measured as follows:
What will happen to fees?
Depending on the rating that the university gets, they will be able to raise fees as follows. This is for new and returning students!
What can I do to stop my fees rising?
