Virtual Volunteering

Develop your skills and give something back to the wider community by volunteering online from your phone, or your laptop.

We are now offering to provide credits as part of the Leadership & Development Programme for Online Volunteering - for this we're not focusing on the amount of time that you can offer to volunteer (as we know many of you have other commitments!) Instead, we are focusing on the OUTCOMES of your time volunteering. To assess this, we simply ask for a short blog or vlog, explaining how the volunteering opportunity has helped you to develop your employability skills, and what you have learnt from the experience.

Below are a list of opportunities for you to get involved with, however, we accept that you may find your own opportunities, which we are happy to accredit as long as it helps with your development. For more information, please contact the Employability and Voice Co-ordinator on s.moss@newman.ac.uk

Support the United Nations
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Online volunteering allows organizations and volunteers to team up to address sustainable development challenges – anywhere in the world, from any device. Online volunteering is fast, easy – and most of all, effective. When skilled, passionate individuals join forces online with great organizations working toward sustainable development goals, everyone wins.

Help with Research with Zooniverse
The Zooniverse is the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research. This research is made possible by volunteers — more than a million people around the world who come together to assist professional researchers. Our goal is to enable research that would not be possible, or practical, otherwise. Zooniverse research results in new discoveries, datasets useful to the wider research community, and many publications.

Help humanitarian organisation's by mapping missing locations
Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable people.
