My Manifesto
Empowering students – I want to empower ALL students to believe they can get involved in anything we do as an SU whether that is creating their own: campaign, event, charity fundraiser, society or anything else a student wishes to create. This comes from talking to as many students as possible and listening to each student. This year I have also empowered students to sit on a University committee in which in 2020/21 I will lobby the University to have students sitting on each committee they have. Students should feel empowered in everything they do and by ensuring that I continue to enable students to feel empowered will mean that more students will become engaged in everything we do. • Student engagement– This year we have seen a rise in student engagement within the SU in ranging from over doubling the amount of active societies we have and over doubling the amount of members in societies to students getting involved in events, campaigns charity fundraisers and our leadership and development programme. Next year one of my main aims is to again increase the amount of engagement we see in the SU and make the SU a safe space for all students to come to no matter what situation they are in whether it is for a general chat or help resolving an issue. • Accessibility for students – This year I submitted a campus accessibility report to ensure the campus is accessible to ALL Newman students in which the University have started work on this. My mission to make the campus as accessible as it should be isn’t complete yet so I will continue to work with and lobby the University to make this campus accessible for students. Also this year to make the university more accessible I thought of the idea which was passed at a university committee to launch the Emergency accommodation fund. This fund is available if a student finds themselves in a situation where they become homeless we can support them by offering them university accommodation for a 2 week period in which they will receive constant support from the University and SU if needed. I want to ensure that all students can use this fund and I will continue to lobby the university to help the SU by allowing students with children to have access to this and to be accommodated using this fund aswell. I want to make sure this mission is not cut short and these important issues aren’t swept under the carpet. YOU have the power to help me help you! |
