As a Students' Union, one of our most important roles is to support and encourage you, as students, to provide us with feedback on your experience whilst at University.
We worked collectively with students, course reps and our executive team to create a survey which aims to collect your opinions, as parents and carers, on a variety of topics such as support, inclusivity and access to resources.
The survey is now closed, and we have analysed the results! Below is the report which we have collated for you to read, and also a list of actions that we have taken following the survey:

The Inclusions and Communities Coordinator delivered the report to the Student Feedback and Surveys Task group, where each of the recommendations in the report were discussed:
- With regards to having someone discuss Financial Advice at Open Days, it was confirmed there are members of staff who already provide this. However, during conversation it was discussed about having a review of the information that is presented to students to ensure that Childcare Grants and Disability Allowance are also included.
- The task group is not opposed to the idea of a career development week, and has offered feedback that logistically the University and NSU need to ensure that contractual agreements are still upheld between the students and course delivery i.e. if contracted for 12 weeks of studying, then these 12 weeks must be provided. The ICC will schedule a meeting with the NSU staff involved in the Student Parent and Student Carer project and determine the next steps forwards.
- The task group has provided the ICC with results of a Commuter Students Survey, which also held thoughts around timetabling topics but indicates that a timetabling review has previously taken place and students found a 9-5 timetable to be more accommodating than other options provided. The ICC will share the results of the survey with the NSU staff involved in the Student Parent and Student Carer project and discuss next steps.
- The Student Parent and Carer report is also being delivered at the Retention and Success Task Group on the 4th May. Therefore, it is expected that the above meetings will take place before this date so that an update of the recommendations of the report can be taken to this task group.
- NSU is also providing a Recognition of the Working Parent event on the 3rd May, where student parents and staff will be able to build a network and discuss how the SU can further support student parents.
