Job Description (summary)
All Officers are responsible for the day to day running and management of the Union as an organisation, including but not limited to: ensuring it complies with the law and relevant acts, in particular the Education and Charity Acts, funding and budget monitoring, compliance with Health and Safety legislation, ensuring Union Policies and Procedures are adhered to and representing students. All Officers are also required to be actively involved in collective work and be willing to accept work at the request of an appropriate body.
RaG and Community Officer voluntary role (non-sabbatical)
This officer leads the Raise and Give team to fundraise for charities and offer volunteering opportunities to students. They work with Student Groups and other students to support charity events. Also, they look at working with the local community to make Newman SU a part of the community.
A full job description can be found in the NSU Constitution, Bye Law 1
I aim to get at least 4% (110) of the Newman population more involved in the community and fundraising. This will help enable employment after university which is one of the Students' Union's strategic aims. I also have contacts outside of Newman in which I am able to help students to get work placements which also may help with employment after University e.g. Shelter etc.
After talking to other students I am aware that there are some charities that students would like to fund-raise for however, this is not currently happening. As RaG and Community Officer I will be going out and talking to students about any charities that they would like to fund-raise for and looking at ways in which we can make that happen.
Also I quite often get told by students that they are not aware of certain events or opportunities available to them in terms of events and fundraising/ volunteering opportunities, so as RaG and Community Officer I will be sending out emails regularly to students with any up-coming fundraising/volunteering opportunities available. I am extremely passionate about helping people therefore this role would be perfect for me as it involves the things I love and am passionate about.
I like to get involved and participate with any activities and fundraising/ volunteering that happens and I have previously worked with Caroline from Chaplaincy and Mark Broadway (RaG and Community Officer 2018/19) with fundraising for Papyrus and rowing for refugees.
