"WE PROMISE TO PUT YOU AT THE HEART OF AN EXCITING NEWMAN COMMUNITY"
We value the importance of being inclusive and accessible for all of our students, and are dedicated to representing all of our 3000 student at Newman University. We also recognise the University's vision as a Widening Participation University, and we too want to help all students thrive while studying at Newman. Below are a list of projects and initiatives that we are taking to help break down barriers within education and Newman.
PT OFFICER WIDENING PARTICIPATION BURSARY
Based on feedback from the Black Student Experience Panel, NSU have been working hard to increase widening participation and diversity within its leadership roles, and will be launching a PT Officer Widening Participation Bursary for 2020/21. Elected Officers could be entitled to a £300 Bursary from our partners Future Finance, who have funded the Bursary.
NEW TO 2021/22 - Newman Students' Union has now included "LGBTQ" to the criteria for the Bursary. Following feedback from students, we want to ensure and encourage more students from under-represented groups stand for our leadership positions.

CAMPUS ACCESSIBILITY REPORT
Newman Students' Union conducted a "walk around" on Campus with students to note all the accessibility issues on site. Your Vice-President for 2019/20, Liam Rogers compiled the information into a a report for the University to consider. EXPERIENCE PANELS
In 2018/19, Newman Students' Union piloted a project called the "Mature Student Experience Panel" in a bid to tackle the statistic of 1 in 5 Mature Students dropping out of University at Newman. The panel consisting of four mature students met with a number of University departments to have an open and honest conversation about the struggles of University life for Mature Students. At the end of the project, the panel made four recommendations to the University.
In response to the Black Attainment Gap published by the Office for Students, the pilot for this idea was then used to launch the "Black Student Experience Panel" in 2019/20, which later developed into two separate panels: The Black Student Experience Panel and the Asian Student Experience Panel. The idea behind these panels is for students to freely and openly discuss the challenges and barriers to their education at every level across the Students' Union and the University, with a report of actions delivered to the University through the Retention and Success Task Group.
