What is a Course Rep?
A Course Rep is an elected student who takes forward class (or course) views to the S.S.C.C. meeting to discuss further and help improve the course for future students. They may take forward issues, or things that students really like about a course to make it the best it can be. Whatever is taken forward must be related to the course itself (so parking is NOT something to be brought up in S.S.C.C). Course Reps should be elected at the start of each Academic year (or re-elected if the same person wishes to remain in the role). This ensures that everyone has a chance to be a rep, and the students have a chance to change reps if they wish.
What is S.S.C.C.?
This stand for the Staff-Student Consultative Committee. This is a meeting where Course Reps and appropriate staff from the course get together to discuss students view points. Any improvements that seem feasible will then be taken forward by the staff to improve the course or specific module. The Course Rep(s) will then feedback to their appropriate class(es)/Course.
Either stand in the election (this happens in the class during a session) or if it hasn't happened find out if more reps are needed in your course and arrange for an election to take place. There is more information available in the Course Rep pack available to download at the bottom of this page. If all the places are filled, then why not help gather views for the current rep, and stand at the start of the next academic year.
Do I get training?
YES! You receive training free of charge to help you fulfil your role. You should receive a letter from the staff member running the election AS SOON AS YOU ARE ELECTED. This lets you know when and where training is, and who to contact if you ever have any problems. If you didn't receive this, ask the staff member for it first, if you still don’t have it contact the NSU Democracy Officer, or President in their absence.
I still have questions
first, check the FAQ in the pack relevant to you at the bottom of this page, if your questions still aren't answered please contact the Democracy Officer or President if they are unavailable.
