Citizens Advice Witness Service provides free and independent support for both Prosecution and Defence Witnesses giving evidence at a Criminal Court. Our trained volunteers provide practical information about the court process as well as emotional support to help witnesses feel more confident when giving evidence.
Witness Service Court Volunteers provide support to all victims and witnesses, volunteers meet and greet witnesses on entry to the court building where possible and takes them to a separate waiting area, they will offer practical and emotional support such as information about the court process, if possible offer them a look around an empty courtroom before the trial day/time and support in the courtroom whilst they give evidence.
Witness Service Outreach Volunteers provide support to vulnerable and intimidated witnesses, meeting them away from the court environment, either at home or at another agreed safe place, like a school or community centre, visits can take place in the evening until 18.30, additionally, volunteers will provide trial day support at court.
