Becoming a Course Rep
Elections for Course Reps happen in the first few weeks of your lectures. An SU representative will conduct the election for Course Reps, so all you need to do is put your hand up when asking for nominations. Alternatively, if the recruitment of Course Reps is taking place online, nominate yourself that way- your lecturer will be able to help you with this!
As a Students' Union, we aim to have at least one Course Rep, per year, per programme. However, if more individuals would like to put themselves forward, we welcome that too!

What if i missed the initial round of recruitment, but would still like to be a Rep?
Whilst we elect the majority of Course Reps in the first few weeks of the academic year, we welcome applications from students throughout the year. If you decide a few weeks, or even months, in that you would like to put yourself forward, either email the Students' Union President (su-president@newman.ac.uk) or speak to your lecturer, who will be able to help!
Why become a Course Rep?
Becoming a Course Rep puts you at the heart of the Newman Community, and gives you the opportunity to meet a variety of different people. As well as this, as a Course Rep you:
- Are accredited for your volunteering time on your HEAR report (which you can show to employers once you leave University)
- Are invited to a variety of different Rep Socials throughout the year, to celebrate all of your hard work!
- Are automatically signed up to the Union's Leadership and Development Programme, which gives you access to lots of different modules that can improve your skills.
- Could be nominated for Course Rep of the Month/Year, and be specially recognised for your contributions!
