"WE PROMISE TO MAKE YOUR VOICE THE LOUDEST..."
As part of one of our four promises, "to make your voice the loudest" Newman Students' Union runs a number of initiatives to ensure that you have the final say in your education. These include:
COURSE REP SYSTEM
We elect and train around 200 students (at least one on each course) to become Course Representatives. They are responsible for gathering other students feedback about their academic experience, which is then taken to a variety of different individuals and meetings to enact positive change!
We are currently in the process of working out a "FIND MY COURSE REP" app for our webpage, but in the meantime, you can contact your lecturer who should know or alternatively, message a team member from the Students' Union through the President at su-president@newman.ac.uk

STUDENT VOICE REPORT
This is a document that The President and Academic Representation Officer produce every year with the support of the staff team at the Students' Union. It provides a summary of all of the Student Voice related activity that we have undertaken as a Union, and collaborated on with the University.
Each report is broken down into different areas, such as Representation and Advice, making it easy to understand. This report is also FULL of recommendations for the University and the Students' Union to improve future Student Experience! This is why it is so important to collect as much information throughout the year as possible. You can access the latest Report on the useful links below.

#ONECITY INITIATIVE
Did you know there are over 100,000 students in Birmingham? Collectively this could be a significant voice for the midlands, so every year, we co-host a conference with the other Students' Unions in Birmingham (Aston, BCU, UCB and UOB). The conference is open for all students to attend, but usually has a limit of participants per University. Keep an eye out for the next Conference, which is usually held in the second semester.
The aim is to focus on things that matter most to students collectively, such as Transport, Housing and Community, and Education Policy. The President of each Students' Union (or Guild) then meet regularly to hold joint campaigns, and apply pressure to local authorities on behalf of all Birmingham Students.

"I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TIMETABLE..."
Your Academic Officer for 2020/21, Chantel Melia pledged in her Manifesto (priorities) to amend timetabling for those who have responsibilities outside of university. After consideration and research, she realised that this was not feasible and instead decided to take a different approach and create a document that enables you, the student, to understand how your timetables are created from a completely transparent perspective.
The aim of this document is not to cause arguments, but to hold the University to account in the correct way. This document has been created in partnership with key University staff members, and should be a helpful document for you when you are having issue with your timetable. This is YOUR chance to communicate with the right staff and have your voices heard.
This process is to show the transparency of the SU and University, and to inform you as fully as possible on the processes that form your education.
